5 ways to do paris like a maximalist

Gone are the  days of Paris being a well kept secret. If it ever was, the Emily in parises, gossip girls, and devil wears pradas have pushed us straight into a culture-wide  frenzy over the little city of lights. No expense spared, we flock to book our seat on American Airlines, only to discover that, though we’re sitting in the back of coach, we actually CAN see the eiffle tower upon arrival, and the hype? Is totally. Completely. Justified.

Of course, this is just my opinion. But it’s hard to be impartial when this is the city where, at 16, I drank my very first glass of champagne and at 20, attended Paris haute couture week as an intern for a French journalist….

The point is, if you’re reading this, you too have likely not escaped the grips of your day dreams, and are likely also wondering how to maximize your trip like the true Serena van der woodsen you really are!

And so, my dear people, after many MANY months of research alongside my partner in crime/ undercover food critic of a husband, I present to you the list of 5 things you absolutely cannot miss when you embark on your pilgrimage to the holy land.

You ready?

  1. One word: Dior.

Book your tickets to visit gallerie dior before you go and get ready to wear you’re most impractical outfit. Enough said.

2. Book a photographer!

Speaking of impractical outfits, this is your moment to sow your oats and show the world the influencer that you really are. Book a photographer through air bnb experiences for an hour long photo walk in your favorite spots!

We highly highly recommend Cynthia Hong, linked here!

3. Take a macaroon class

since this was a little farther from the city center, we hesitated to commit - but are SO glad we did. It is one of our favorite memories - hands down. Cookin’ with class offers several different types of classes, ranging in price, duration & time of day! All are english speaking, and such a fun and unique way to take advantage of the french culture!

4. Grab a cup of coffee at ysl on your way to the louvre

nestled on a quiet street off rue saint honore sits the most fashionable little cafe. grab a shot of espresso or just a shot of yourself holding your husbands espresso…. either way you can’t go wrong with YSL cafe.

5. Have a wine and cheese picnic underneath the eiffle tower

If you’ve ever wanted to do like the locals do…. who am I kidding this is as camp as it gets. pick up some bread and cheese from a little local boulangerie, or go gourmet with a pre-packed picnic from Picnics in paris and head to the champs de mars!

Pro tip: pick up a thin rollup blanket from the $5 dollar section at target - use once then throw away! it’s a guiltless, weightless way to picnic in paris like a pro!

Pro tip 2: scalpers on the champs de mars will try to sell you the cheap stuff for a lot of money, so bring your own champagne or wine from a local market to ensure a tourist-y free experience!
